I’ll be honest. I was drawn to Kiko’s Wanderlust collection because of its design. Talk about judging a book by its cover. Can’t blame me for judging a beauty product by its packaging. It’s all making an impression :) Kiko collaborated with Ross Lovegrove who designed the packaging for their 2016 limited edition summer collection. Inspired by the wanderlust theme combined with Kiko brand DNA, the result is stunning. This collection is donned in alluring curves wrapped with light-reflecting embossed surface. There is an architectural yet organic vibe to it. Here’s the video if you are keen to learn more about the design philosophy behind the Wanderlust collection. After recollecting myself and rounds of sanity check, I picked out 3 items from the collection. A pat on my back on my self-control. Sunshine DD cream SPF 30 (Medium) | Euro 12.90 We’ve heard enough of BB and CC creams. Yes, another alphabet cream and this intrigued me since this is the first time I heard of it. DD stands for Daily Defense. It ia also known as “Double-Duty, Dynamic Do-all and Dermatologically Defining (such a tongue twister - try repeating it 3 times). Based on what I gathered from the web, DD cream is supposed provide benefits of BB and CC creams and to top off that, it has more anti-aging properties. However, the anti-aging properties was not mentioned in the product description on Kiko site so am not sure Sunshine DD cream provides any of that anti-aging goodness. On Kiko site, this is described to provide uniform colour and protection that is ideal for summer with SPF 30 protection. There are 4 shades available which makes it so much easier for me to select (via online) compared to some of their foundation that has over 10 or 15 shades. This can either be a pro and con for some folks. It comes in a handy size which is excellent when you travel for summer holidays. It has an eye drop-style tip. I guess not really for precision application but it might help to regulate the amount of product applied. I’ve used this a few times and really enjoy it. The formula is lightweight; provides light to medium coverage and wears well throughout the day. Out of Bounds Eyeliner Pen (Black) | Euro 8.90 I wasn’t planning on getting the eyeliner. Packaging wise, it’s far less exciting than the rest in this collection but I changed my mind when saw a couple of good reviews and comes recommended by Fleur De Force. I’m always game to try out eyeliners and this one is inexpensive so why not? Not a fan of felt-tip eyeliner and I did struggle a little when I first use it. It’s better when I use it a few more times but I still prefer a brush tip when doing the wings of the corner. I struggled with doing that flick with a felt-tip. In any case, the product is pretty long lasting and it's a true black so it’s not a bad eyeliner after all if you like felt-tip eyeliners.
Summary
I think Kiko has done a great job introducing new limited edition launches so that makeup addicts like us always have something new to lust after. This is another lovely collection from them with a refreshing take to let the packaging design lead the campaign. Many brands have done collabs with celebrities, beauty bloggers, fashion designers etc so I applaud Kiko’s bold move to work with an industrial designer instead. Hope you've found this sharing helpful. Thanks for reading!
