I bought a couple of the newly launched Huda Beauty Liquid Matte. This is the first product I’m trying from the brand, created by a well-renowned Beauty Guru/ Blogger Huda Kattan. Wasn't familiar with her blog since I’m pretty new to the beauty community. It was really the packaging that caught my attention. Here're my thoughts on their Liquid Matte range. I purchased mine from Cult Beauty. Each costs GBP 18 each and I paid GBP 15 after deduction of UK sales tax since this is an international order. Packaging Let’s talk about the packaging first and honestly this is what got me so interested in this collection in the first place. The packaging design is STUNNING!! Not the material which is just cardboard and a plastic sleeve but the entire design concept. It so ingenious of them to come up with something that’s soooo on-trend and distinctively recognizable. If you browse through Instagram, the Liquid Matte lipsticks are mostly taken together with the packaging. It’s just look more complete that way. So you see, the packaging itself is so well-design that it becomes the marketing tool itself. Their Liquid Matte lipstick come in a sturdy frosted tube which distorts the colour of the actual product but I don’t mind. It’s compensated by the printed lip swatch on the packaging for easy colour identification. Colours There are a total of 16 shades in this collection. By the time I placed an order, most of the colours were out of stock so here are the 2 I manage to get.
Overall, I like how both colours turn out so thumbs up! * Apologies on the uneven width of the colour swatches. I gotta practise more. 😜 Formulation These are marketed as lightweight, non-drying and smudge-proof so here’s my take on the formulation. These have a liquidy texture which personally I like. Somehow I think the more moussey ones emphasize the lines on my lips more easily and tend to be drying on me. Everyone is talking about the scent. Some like it and some hate it. I’m in the camp that I don’t like it BUT don’t mind it cos it goes away after it dries down. Pigmentation is good and it’s quite decent in terms of long lasting. Of course, I would still need to touch up after a meal but I don’t mind it since it fades quite evenly. There’s no flaking at the end of the day. My only gripe is the amount of time it takes to set. On the website, it states that this takes around 30 sec to set and intensify to an opaque finish. This definitely doesn't set in 30 sec in my case. I did a swatch test on the back of my hand and waited for about a min to set. Was disappointed that it was transfer proof after giving it 1 min to set. It actually takes longer. 3 min in my case before it becomes smudge proof. I also heard of the tacky feeling but I didn't have that problem. What really won me over is how comfortable these are! Generally, liquid lipsticks tend to dry out my lips and you know that nagging feeling of having a liquid lippie on because of the way it feels on your lips. It’s just not as comfortable as wearing a normal lipstick. However for these, it’s so comfortable to the point that I can forget that I have a liquid lipstick on that day! This is one of the most (if not the most) comfortable liquid lipstick I own. For that, I don’t mind it has a scent or takes longer to dry. Overall, I'm really happy with these and definitely planning to get a couple more colours! I have my eyes set on Trendsetter which is the colour that I wanted in the first place but it was sold out. Also thinking of trying either Bombshell or Venus.
Have you come across other liquid lipsticks that measure up in terms of comfortable wear. Let me know cos I’ll be keen to check that out. Thanks for reading! 💋
